Dementia and Alzheimer’s are becoming two of the most dreaded brain diseases of our time. The one country in the world that has the lowest rate of Alzheimer’s is India. Researchers are crediting this marvel with the spice turmeric as it contains curcumin which helps the aging blood vessels to relax; thereby, increasing blood flow to the brain. Adding a little coconut oil and black pepper to the turmeric aids in better absorption. Turmeric can easily be added to our favorite peas and rice dish. Fresh ginger may also help protect you from Alzheimer’s. Ginger boosts the immune system, aids in digestion and reduces joint pain. Add it to your favorite dishes or make a refreshing tea. Using coconut oil in cooking instead of canola oil is also beneficial to your brain health. Other brain enhancing foods are broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, collards and Brussels Sprouts. Ground flax seeds and chia seeds contain the needed omega 3’s for brain health and should be included in the diet. For ideas and recipes, go to the internet.
