School opens in just a few weeks for most of our children. For students, it’s a time of sadness for summer is over. The children will come home from school tired and hungry. The best thing we can do as parents is to make sure that they have a healthy and nutritious snack. With the new 12%Vat, food is getting more expensive so we have to find ways to make it stretch further. Fresh fruits can go a long way when sliced or cut up. Buy a selection of fruit and only use part of it each snack time. Thinly slice just a
quarter of an apple or pear, cut grapes in half, cut a melon in thin slices. You can use part of each fruit for a smoothie. Coconuts are very nutritious and we can all find them locally which helps cut the cost. The coconut milk can be used in smoothies and the meat can be sliced and added to fruit plates. Don’t forget the availability of local bananas and other fruit to help with your food budget.
